My cross stitch finishing this week included the completion of my little pillow stitched from my free cross stitch pattern Stay Safe.
This cute little pillow reminds me to stay safe and hope you all do too!
The free pdf pattern is available to download from here in a previous post.
Here are the finishing tips for the pillow.
Cross stitch finishing tips for the pillow
A piece of lightweight interfacing was placed on the reverse side of the cross-stitched piece.
Blue fabric was added along the bottom and then I cut a piece long enough for the side.
The little surface crosses were stitched using the aida fabric as a guide to place my stitches.
A piece of matching blue fabric was cut out for the back of the pillow and at the same time I cut out a lightweight piece of white cotton to line the front piece.
A narrow hem was stitched on the sewing machine, I did not line the reverse.
Placing the cross-stitched piece right sides together I then stitched all around the edge leaving a small gap at the bottom to allow for filling with fibrefill.
The seams were trimmed to a scant half centimeter, cut across the corners close to the edge, being careful not to cut into the seams.
Turn the pillow right side out and then iron any creases out.
I filled the pillow with polyester fibrefill pushing into the corners with a pair of pointy scissors or a chopstick to ensure your corners are crisp and sharp.
Stitch the space at the bottom with slip stitches to close the pillow.
Now this next part may sound a bit strange but I then iron the pillow steaming it around the edge and moulding it into a nice neat finish.
I will show this in a photo next time I make one so that you understand what I mean! Lol……
Stoney Creek Snowmen completed
I am so glad I managed to finish this, it was a joy to stitch. I am not sure if the pattern is now out of print but the patterns on Stoney Creek website are really cute, you can see them here
Christmas stitching on Brooke’s Books Calendar
Most of the stitching completed so far was done quite a while ago but I decided to pick them up again to get them finished. These are Brooke’s Books free christmas calendar patterns, they are available here.
I have just finished stitching Odette Owl and have now started Ethan Elephant!
Don’t you just love her bow in her hair!
Hopefully I will finish Ethan this evening!
Don’t forget if you are on Facebook I would love you to pop over to Happiness is Cross Stitching to join the group, we would love to see what you are stitching.
I made my first video inside the group, I did not show my face just my hands showing some of my finishes! Lol….
Until next time, Happy Stitching!
