Hi everyone, here is the secret piece of stitching that I have been working on for the past year or so, tah dah!!!!!
Stitching and good news
Before I tell you about the Old Navy Man I just wanted to say thankyou to all of the people who have nominated me for the British Craft Awards 2017 for Best Cross Stitch Blog of the Year, I am thrilled!
The last time this category was part of the awards was in 2015 when I was runner up in the category, however, there was a small problem with this, the letter failed to arrive to inform me of the award ceremony and I did not get the chance to attend, I only found out about it when a kind blogger in America told me about 12 months later that I had won second place.
I was a little disappointed that I did not get the chance to enjoy what would have been a wonderful day out, but now at least I get another chance to attend as all nominees are invited! Yay!!!!
So, if you like my blog and you would like me to win than please vote for me, there are so many talented nominees that I really don't expect to win but to be part of that day will be exciting enough.
There is an award ceremony in Birmingham UK next February and I can't wait to go and join in the fun!
Anyone can vote from anywhere in the world but if you live in the UK there is an opportunity to win a prize for voting. Voting is here just click on the cross stitch category and the list of nominees will show up after answering some questions.
Thankyou to all of the readers of the cross stitch magazines that voted for me, I am truly thrilled, again!

The Old Navy Man - A Random Act of Kindness
Have you ever read a blog post and been so overwhelmed by the words of another that you felt compelled to stitch something? Well this happened to me one day in 2014, I read a post on Pat's blog Bird Nest On The Ground, I was moved to tears when I read all about her husband that she loved so much, he had passed away and she was writing about her loss.
I felt compelled to stitch the photo she had posted. Normally I ask if I can use photos that have been published on blogs but I knew I would be forgiven if I sneakily "stole" the photo for my stitching.
I uploaded the photo into my cross stitch designer and the pattern that was produced was just like the photo, I was thrilled with the pattern. I looked at all of the 13,000 stitches on the pattern, took a deep breath and started to stitch. At first it seemed overwhelming will I ever get it finished?
I did my self a favour, I never told Pat until it was nearly completed, that way I never put myself under pressure.
The Old Navy Mans face started to appear and I sat wondering what this man was like, I am sure he was a kind lovely man as Pat had said herself.
The more of his face appeared the more I felt compelled to stitch, I did not work on it every day, just when I was in the mood, finally I had nearly finished and that was when I told Pat to expect a gift in the post.
The day arrived for me to carefully wrap the Old Navy Man into tissue paper and place him in a box to send him on his way across the pond to America, I held my breath hoping he would not get lost in the post!
He has finally arrived at his destination after many hours of stitching and Pat was thrilled, you can read about Pats reaction in this post on her blog here
If you are thinking of doing a random act of kindness for anyone, trust me, it was worth every moment, I really enjoyed it.
It was a pleasure to stitch this for you Pat, I am so pleased you liked it so much, may you and your family have many years of happiness looking at the Old Navy Man, he will always be in your hearts.
Here are some more photos.
There are a a lot of different colours in the hat and the brickwork, a bit hard on the eyes when stitching.
Here is a picture of the card I designed for Pat using my Craft Artist software

What a wonderful RAK to do that for Pat. I am sure both she and her family were thrilled to receive it.
I would love to enter your competition - I do have a wonderful photo of my daughter getting married with the spires of Cambridge in the background. But what I'd really love is to make a cross stitch of my parent's wedding photo. Black and white! But it would be a challange!
Wow!!!! The Old Nay Man is stunning - I love it. You are a very kind lady to do such a beautiful act of "Random Kindness".
Congratulations on your nominee for The British Craft Awards 2017...I've already voted for you. Bonne Chance! Sorry to hear that you missed the last celebration, but I know you'll have a blast there in February.
Oh, Lynn, what a wonderful act of kindness. Love your heart, love your blog.
Hugs

I would love a pattern done of my 21 year old son who was tragically killed in a car accident on October 18th 2015.
The RAK you did is amazing!!
Thank you for this kind offer and good luck to anyone that enters!
I saw your art on Pat's blog. She's been my blog friend since she started blogging, I think. Some people don't even have to think about the what they will do to be kind. They just are. And when they are a creative person, their RAK are events in someones life that really make a difference. I see that you are once of these spirits. Of course we all have pictures that we would love to turn into needlework. I have one of my husband that comes to mind.
I'm going to have a look around your blog. I'm pretty sure there is great inspiration here. You think I mean for art...I am thinking for "life".
Thank you for bringing tears of joy to my friend Pat. She has your spirit as well.

Your secret stitching project is wonderful - how you capture the face as you did is beyond me! This is truly a gift to treasure for a lifetime. I voted so hope my vote counts even though I live in the states. I would love to have my wedding phote (as old as it is) converted to a pattern. I have been married 45 years - this is a long time in today's standard!
What a beautiful thing to do! Your stitching is wonderful!
This is the first time I am commenting. This is absolutely the best thing I have seen. A tribute to a fallen hero. I know that I would love to have one of my parents. My Dad died over 20 years ago from breathing asbestos at work. It was horrible. My Mom passed going on 5 years ago from lung cancer from smoking and she had quit almost 30 years before. It was horrible as well....
I don't care how old you are, losing your parents is the worst.
You do such beautiful work. I have been cross stitching for over 25 years. I have had several back surgeries and I taught myself how as I could only get out of bed for rest room, for 3 months. I laid on my back and held my hands up and did it. Now, I can't get enough!!!
Loving act of kindness - great. Stitching is perfect. I would like to stitch our family photo.
That has brought tears to my eyes. I'm sure there were no words when Pat opened this amazing gift. I think this is the absolute sweetest thing I have seen and I agree with Pat when you think the world is going to hell in a hand basket, someone you don't personally know comes along with unbelievable kindness and compassion. I do think the cross stitching community is a caring group of people and it goes to show that there is still a lot of goodness in the world. I was especially touched as my husband is a retired military man, so it's close to home as you would say. I will share this story with the two groups I belong to at church. I would love a chance for your giveaway as I have a something in mind for my husband or son, military related. I live in the States, but just voted for your blog as I have so enjoyed reading it for years and have gotten so much inspiration. I look forward to years of inspiration here.
Lynn, you are truly a beautiful person. God bless you. I am moved to tears my friend.
You are awesome, Lynn!
Good Morning, Lynn! I just wanted to give you a huge THANK YOU on your blog for the lovely RAK you blessed me with. The "old navy man" looks so wonderful there, stitched perfectly. He looks exactly like the photo I took of him before he became really ill. It was one of his good days and now I can remember it with the lovely heirloom you have presented to me and my children. And, unbeknownst to you, it came the day before my birthday. No better gift could be had! He would be as thrilled as I, seeing himself there with his favorite Navy hat on. Yes, sometimes when we are feeling our worst, a lovely stranger comes along to save the day. You did a lovely thing, my friend, and I hope you win the contest...you deserve all good things!! Thank you so very much! pat❤️
What a truly kind and wonderful thing you did! I am just in awe of your kind heart.
I have a photo of my Mother who passed away over ten years ago, I'd love to stitch her sweet face.
Wishing you many blessings. :)
What a lovely and sweet thing you have done for Pat. Respect!
So many stitches for someone you only know by internet, you are truly a very good person!
And ofcourse I have voted for you, you deserve the award. Not only for making the Navy Man but also for your inspiring and beautiful blog! I hope you win!
Greetings again
Hello Lynn,
I was so moved by your act of kindness toward Pat! The picture of The Old Navy Man that you recreated in cross stitch is really the most beautiful and touching gift I have ever seen! I cried reading her post about it and how much that meant to her...and I cried again reading yours! You not only are a very talented and generous artist, you are a wonderful and thoughtful person and you have shown us that there is still a lot of good in this world! Thank you so much for that!
I hope you have a good week filled with all the things you love!
This is such a kind and generous thing to have done for Pat. Your pattern and stitching really captured the spirit of the Old Navy Man in the original photo.
I won't enter your giveaway as I'm blessed to have my close family still around and there are others far more in need of a chart from you. But thank you for your continued generosity to our community.
Hi Lynn,
Our beautiful Golden Retriever Clarence is almost 15 and sadly, on his last legs. I would love to stitch a photo of him.
Thank you for the chance to win,
Kerrie
A wonderful gift.
You are so kind doing such an amazing piece of work for someone. What a fantastic job! My father was also in the Navy. I would love to stitch a favorite photo of my cat - one of the first photos taken of him when I adopted him. Thanks so much.
Dear Lynn, What a beautiful and priceless gift you gave to Lynn. Thank you for sharing this and for the link to Pat's blog.
God bless you for your RAK and thanks for sharing the story with us.
I would love to do a picture of my cat.
