Hand made labels and a small giveaway

Hi everyone, quilt labels giveaway.

• The giveaway is a custom made label that will have your blog and name entered on the label. 
• The labels measure 2" wide x 1" high.
• I will fit as many labels on the page that I can, there will probably be about 24 in total.
• I will send the digital file to the first person picked randomly from the entrants.

The giveaway label is the one in the picture below, I will personalise the label for the winner.    The giveaway will close next Tuesday and the winner will be announced next Tuesday  25th November 2014. 

I was inspired to do this after receiving an email a few days ago from a blogging friend who asked me if I could make some labels for her, the lady offered to pay for my time but I declined payment as I like to brighten someones day and do a random act of kindness every now and then.

It just so happened at the time that I was designing something on my computer, so I set it aside and started to design the labels for her, I made four A4 sheets of different designs and she was delighted with them.

I then got to thinking about how easy it is to do this as long as you know what software is available free on the internet. For years I used to wonder how do people design stitcheries with such smooth straight lines and yet they look hand drawn?   How do they design their own clip art and not have to rely on buying a commercial licence to use that clip art?
I found it frustrating that I did not even know what I was actually looking for!

Then one day I found  a drawing tutorial on You Tube which mentioned Adobe Illustrator and Inkscape.  I had heard of Illustrator but did not know you could design clip art within the software.  Mmmm, I was intrigued but much to my disappointment the Adobe software is in the hundreds of pounds price range and that is not achievable in everyones budget, certainly not mine at the moment! Lol....
However, when I researched Inkscape I found out it was a free download over the internet that was also a design tool....... Yay!!!
I wanted to share this information with my readers because it will save you a lot of time if you ever wondered how it was done.

The screen shot above is a picture of one of the label sheets I designed in inkscape, it took me a few minutes to design but I did need to watch a few tutorials first in order to understand the software. Be warned it is addictive! Lol...

These are the labels I have made for you all this week, you can print onto iron on fabric or print them onto card and use as gift tags, I have included quilt tags for the quilters too.
