Hi everyone, the first Santa's House is finished of the Country Cottage Needleworks Santa's Village, however, I am not happy with it, my first reason, I don't like the fabric and the second reason, I stitched it too close to the edge, only one thing for it, I have to change the fabric and start again! Aggghhh!
You know when you are simply just not happy with something and you know that feeling will just not go away until you do something about it?
It is my own fault, I know I do not like stitching on this particular lambswool linen (Permin) but I thought I would follow what the pattern suggested, anyway, I changed my mind and ordered my favourite stitching fabric, 32 count Murano linen, it is a pale grey and I simply love using this stuff! It arrived today, so hopefully I should be starting again this evening.
If I had seen the post on the Country Cottage Needlework blog here first I may not have made the mistake with the size of the material, I basically tried to guess and did not realise that the houses were stitched very close to each other.
The next pattern has already arrived so I need to get a stitch on! I think the third pattern is out already but I am pacing myself with this and intend to do one a month, mmmm, well two in February and one in March!lol

This is a close up photo of the Pale Grey Murano Linen, I love the evenweave of this fabric, all very neat!
Getting ready to measure and away I go!

I think it looks great, even though you are unhappy with it. What do you plan to do with this stitched piece? I'm still working on mine.
Oh that is a shame Lynn, but I am totally with you with the Murano fabric, it is my favourite too and I buy it now for all my projects, I just use up my other bits of fabrics...
Oh dear, it's such a sweet design, you are very brave to put it to one side and start again but if you know in your heart it's not right for you then I guess it's the right thing to do ~ good luck with the next fabric xxx
Oh that's such a shame Lynn but I have to say I'm not a big fan of Permin linen either. I find its a bit too stiff for me.
It's always a problem finding a nice fabric that "snow" will show up on. I like the idea of the pale grey.
At least you can make a lovely ornament or pinkeep out of #1.

I have done that before...the whole restitching something because I don't like the fabric. It really is a cute design and once you have the fabric you like, it will make a fun stitch all year.

That sucks. You are not the first person I've heard that dislikes lambswool. Hope your fingers can fly like the wind on your new linen pick. It does look great btw.

Your Stitching is great and the cottage is sooooo cute. maybe you can use that one as a gift. I love the new fabric, it's is one of my favorite materials. The cottages will look really good on it too.

Oh no! I'm sorry you don't like it. Can you cut it down and use it for something else? I finally started stitching mine last night. I usually start in the middle of a design, so I was stuck with this one. But I figured it out, so now I'll stitch like crazy to get one done in January. Or early February. I'm actually stitching the Feb house first.
Too bad you have to start over but you can use the one you already stitched and make a flatfold or something out of it. It's very cute. Good luck with the new one!

I'm also not a fan of Permin...their colors are beautiful, but OH the holes are huge and it's very stiff!

Such a beautiful finish, Lynn, and I'm glad you made the decision about re-starting it on a piece of linen you love before you stitched any more of the houses! This will make a cute little pillow--at least all your stitching time didn't go to waste!

lovely finish :D I don't touch linens I tend towards evenweaves because I can't stand the way it isn't even. I like the new fabric you have picked out.
Evenweave is definitely a pleasure to work with sometimes!

What a shame! I know that feeling however. If there's something you're not happy with it's going to haunt you. I have never used the Permin linen but I know of several who have and don't like using it. Therefore I think I'll steer clear of it too.
I like your choice of fabric much better.

I stitch something on a fabric I hated and never used before. Never again. Aida Cloth is what works for me.
